America at 250: Celebrating a Nation's Journey and Shaping Its Future

On July 4, 2026, the United States marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone, commonly called "America 250" or the Semiquincentennial, is a chance to reflect on the nation's journey, celebrate its achievements, and look ahead to what future generations will build.
As communities across the country recognize this moment, organizations are reflecting on how they contribute to stronger neighborhoods and greater opportunities. Since 1938, Peak Credit Union has been rooted in the same principles that shaped the nation: community service, collaboration, and a commitment to helping people reach their goals. What started as a small credit union serving teachers and wood products workers in the Pacific Northwest has grown into a financial cooperative proudly serving over 250,000 members across 35 branches in Oregon and Washington.
More Than a Celebration
The 250th anniversary is more than fireworks and festivities. It highlights the importance of local institutions that help communities thrive. Peak Credit Union supports individuals and families across the Pacific Northwest through everyday banking, lending, financial education, and hands-on community engagement. Its vision of building communities where all feel financially secure and empowered to reach their dreams reflects the broader American ideal that opportunity should be accessible to everyone.
Peak's deep roots in the industries and classrooms that shaped Oregon and Washington are part of a larger American story of people building their communities from the ground up. That commitment hasn't faded. In 2025, Peak Credit Union and the PeakCU Foundation combined to give over $1.1 million to the communities they serve. Those dollars supported education and literacy, economic development, youth and family programs, health and wellness, housing, and food insecurity efforts across the region.
The PeakCU Foundation awarded $97,500 in scholarships to 48 members, distributed $43,800 in Classroom Cash to 219 classrooms, and provided $179,500 in grants to local nonprofits including Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Onward Eugene, and the Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County. Beyond dollars, Peak employees gave nearly 3,500 volunteer hours in 2025, translating to over $120,000 in economic impact across 170 organizations. From sponsoring events like SummerFEST in Lakewood and Dog Days in Tumwater, to running weekend food bag deliveries for food-insecure students through All Kids Win, Peak shows up for its neighbors in ways that reflect the collaborative spirit the Pacific Northwest is known for.
Looking Ahead
While anniversaries inspire reflection, they also encourage forward thinking. The questions facing the nation today, including economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement, will help define the next chapter of American history. The 250th anniversary is a reminder that progress is an ongoing effort shaped by each generation.
Whether through community events, educational programs, volunteer projects, or family gatherings, we invite everyone to participate in America 250. At Peak Credit Union, we believe that building community isn't just a belief — it's a promise. Built for you. Built for belonging. If you're ready to be part of the future of the Pacific Northwest, we'd love to have you. Join today at PeakCU.org/join
Happy 250th Birthday, America.
