How Are Bill Pay Payments Delivered?
Bill Pay payments are delivered using the fastest available method supported by the payee.
Payments may be sent:
Electronically
-
Most payments are delivered electronically.
-
Electronic payments may be processed through:
- ACH (Automated Clearing House)
- Virtual card payments
-
Electronic delivery is typically the fastest payment method available.
Paper Check
-
Some payees are not able to receive electronic payments.
-
When electronic delivery is unavailable, Bill Pay will mail a paper check to the payee on your behalf.
-
Because mailed payments require additional delivery time, they generally take longer than electronic payments.
How Long Do Payments Take?
Payment delivery times vary depending on:
- The payee receiving the payment
- Whether the payment is sent electronically or by check
- Weekends and holidays
- Mail delivery times (for check payments)
When scheduling a payment, Bill Pay will display the earliest available delivery date based on the payee and payment method.
Tip: Schedule payments several days before the due date whenever possible.
Weekends and Holidays
Bill Pay payments are processed Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
Payments cannot be processed on:
- Saturdays
- Sundays
- Federal holidays
If a payment is scheduled near a weekend or holiday, additional processing time may be required.
Recurring Payments
Recurring payments follow the schedule you select when setting up the payment.
If a recurring payment falls on a weekend or holiday, Bill Pay will ask whether you want the payment processed:
- Before the scheduled date, or
- After the scheduled date
Review recurring payments periodically to make sure the payment amount and schedule are still correct.
Can I Change or Cancel a Payment?
In most cases, you may edit or stop a payment before:
