1. Check Your Available Balance

  • A transaction may be declined if there are not enough available funds in the account.

  • Before trying the transaction again:

    • Confirm your available balance in Digital Banking.
    • Verify that pending transactions or holds have not reduced the available balance.
    • Make sure the transaction amount does not exceed your available funds.

2. Confirm Your Card Is Active

  • If you recently received a new or replacement card, verify that it has been activated.

  • Members can activate eligible cards through Digital Banking using Card Management.

  • See How to use Card Management features for additional information.

3. Verify Your PIN

  • If your transaction requires a PIN:

    • Confirm that you're entering the correct PIN.
    • Try the transaction again if you believe the PIN was entered incorrectly.
    • Update your PIN through Digital Banking if necessary.
  • Members can manage their PIN through Card Management.
  • See How to use Card Management features for additional information.

4. Check the Card Expiration Date

  • Expired cards cannot be used for purchases, ATM transactions, or other card activity.

  • Verify that:

    • The card has not expired.
    • You're using the most recently issued card if a replacement card has been received.

5. Verify the Security Code (CVV)

  • Online purchases typically require the three-digit security code (CVV) on the back of your card.

  • A transaction may be declined if:

    • The CVV was entered incorrectly.
    • Billing information does not match the merchant's records.
    • The merchant's verification requirements are not met.
  • Review the information entered and try the transaction again.

6. Review Card Status

  • Transactions may be declined if:

    • The card has been temporarily disabled
    • The card has been reported lost or stolen
    • Card controls are restricting the transaction type
    • The card has been blocked due to suspected fraud
  • You can review your card status through Digital Banking Card Management by selecting Support > Card Management in the menu.

  • Members can also:

    • Temporarily disable or re-enable a card
    • Report a lost or stolen card
    • Order a replacement card
    • Update their PIN
    • Set card controls
    • Set up card alerts
    • Add travel notifications

7. Check Daily Card Limits

  • Your transaction may exceed an available card limit.

  • Examples include:

    • Purchase limits
    • ATM withdrawal limits
    • Cash advance limits
  • If the transaction exceeds the available limit, it may be declined.

  • To confirm card limits, please contact us via chat, phone at 800-258-3115, or visit your local branch.

8. Consider Travel or Out-of-Area Transactions

  • Travel or unusual activity may trigger additional fraud monitoring.

  • The transactions may be reviewed for security purposes if you are:

    • Traveling
    • Making a large purchase
    • Purchasing from a new merchant
    • Making purchases outside your normal spending patterns
  • Members can add travel notifications through Digital Banking Card Management before traveling.

9. Check for Fraud Alerts

  • Transactions may be declined if suspicious activity has been detected.

  • Common examples include:

    • Unusual spending activity
    • Purchases in unexpected locations
    • Transactions that match known fraud patterns
  • If fraud monitoring has restricted your card, review any communications you've received and contact us if assistance is needed.

10. Account Restrictions

  • In some situations, card transactions may be declined because of restrictions on the account.

  • Because account restrictions vary, they cannot be reviewed or removed through Digital Banking. If you believe an account restriction may be affecting your card, contact us for assistance.
