Zelle® Payment Not Received: What to Do

Use this article if you've sent or are expecting a Zelle® payment and the money has not been received as expected.

In most cases, Zelle® payments are delivered within minutes. However, delays can occur if the recipient has not enrolled, the wrong contact information was used, or additional processing is required.

Before You Begin

If a payment has not been received, first determine whether you are:

  • The sender waiting for someone to receive a payment
  • The recipient expecting to receive money

The troubleshooting steps may be different depending on your situation.

If You Sent Money

Confirm the Recipient's Information

  • Verify that the email address or U.S. mobile number entered for the recipient is correct.

  • If the payment was sent to the wrong email address or phone number, the recipient may not receive the notification.

Check the Payment Status

In Digital Banking:

  1. Select Transfers & Payments
  2. Select Zelle®
  3. Select Activity
  4. Locate the payment
  5. Review the payment activity status

Has the Recipient Enrolled in Zelle®?

  • If the recipient has not yet enrolled with the email address or mobile number used for the payment:

    • The payment will remain pending.
    • The recipient should receive instructions to enroll.
    • Once enrolled, the payment can be received.

Can I Cancel the Payment?

  • You may be able to cancel a payment if the recipient has not yet enrolled in Zelle®.

  • Once the recipient has enrolled and the payment has been delivered, the payment cannot be canceled.

If You're Expecting Money

Verify the Sender Used the Correct Information

  • Confirm that the sender used the same information that you enrolled with:

    • Email address, or
    • U.S. mobile number
  • A payment sent to a different email address or phone number may not be delivered to your account.

Confirm You Are Enrolled

  • To receive money through Zelle®, you must first enroll using a U.S. mobile number or an email address and link it to an eligible Peak Credit Union account.

Check Your Enrolled Contact Information

  • If you have multiple phone numbers or email addresses, verify that the sender used one of the contact methods currently enrolled with Zelle®.

Allow Additional Processing Time

  • Although most transactions are completed within minutes, some payments may take longer to process.

  • This can occur when:

    • A recipient recently enrolled
    • Additional verification is required
    • The payment is under review

Common Reasons a Zelle® Payment Has Not Been Received

  • The recipient has not enrolled. The recipient must enroll before they can receive money.

  • Incorrect email address or mobile number. The payment may have been sent to the wrong contact information.

  • Additional security review needed. Some transactions require additional verification before funds are released.
  • The recipient is checking the wrong account. Recipients should verify that the account linked to Zelle® is the account they're reviewing.
  • The sender and recipient are using different contact information. The payment can only be delivered to the email address or mobile number used when the recipient enrolled.

Safety Reminder

  • Only send money using Zelle® to people you know and trust.

  • Zelle® payments are intended for friends, family, and trusted recipients.

  • Because payments are typically processed quickly, they generally cannot be canceled once completed.

  • Always verify recipient information before sending money.
