Why Was My Mobile Check Deposit Rejected?
If a check you submitted through the Peak mobile app was rejected, review the deposit email you received and follow the troubleshooting steps below.
A Mobile Check Deposit may be rejected because of the check image, endorsement, deposit amount, eligibility, deposit limits, or another issue identified during review.
Start with Your Deposit Email
After submitting a Mobile Check Deposit, you'll receive:
- An initial email confirming that your deposit was received.
- A second email letting you know whether the deposit was approved, adjusted, or rejected.
If your deposit was rejected, review the second email first for information about the deposit result.
Important: The initial "received" email does not mean that your check has been approved for deposit.
Common Reasons a Mobile Check Deposit May Be Rejected
Check Your Endorsement
-
Before submitting a Mobile Check Deposit, sign the back of the check.
-
Below your signature, write:
-
For mobile deposit only to Peak Credit Union
-
-
If the check lists multiple payees, all required payees must endorse the check.
-
After correcting the endorsement, you may be able to resubmit the check.
Retake the Check Photos
-
The deposit may not process correctly if the check images are unclear or incomplete.
-
When taking pictures:
- Place the check on a flat surface.
- Use good lighting.
- Make sure the image is in focus.
- Include all four edges of the check.
- Leave some space around the check.
- Make sure the routing and account numbers are visible.
- Make sure the endorsement on the back can be clearly read.
- If the image wasn't clear, retake the photos and try the deposit again.
Verify the Check Amount
-
Make sure the amount you enter in the Peak mobile app matches the amount written on the check.
-
Double-check the amount before submitting the deposit again.
Check Your Mobile Deposit Limit
-
Mobile Check Deposit limits apply.
-
If the deposit exceeds your available limit, you may receive an error indicating that the business day amount limit was exceeded.
-
Mobile deposit limits include a rolling seven-day limit, and deposits submitted during the weekend are included with Monday's applicable limit.
-
If the check exceeds your available Mobile Check Deposit limit, you may need to use another deposit method.
Make Sure the Check Hasn't Already Been Deposited
-
Do not attempt to deposit the same check more than once.
-
Before resubmitting a rejected check, review the deposit status and your account activity to make sure the check was not already accepted or credited.
-
Keeping your original check for at least 30 days after submitting a Mobile Check Deposit can also help if questions arise about the deposit.
How to Attempt the Deposit Again
If you've identified and corrected the issue:
- Open the Peak mobile app.
- Select the camera icon in the thumb bar or select Deposit Check under Transactions.
- Select the account where you want to deposit the check.
- Enter the correct check amount.
- Take clear pictures of the front and back.
- Confirm the check is properly endorsed.
- Review the information.
- Submit the deposit.
Watch for the follow-up email confirming whether the new deposit was approved, adjusted, or rejected.
What if the Deposit Is Rejected Again?
If you've corrected the issue and the deposit is still rejected, don't repeatedly resubmit the same check.
Contact Peak so we can help determine the next step. Depending on the reason for the rejection, you may need to use another deposit method.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I deposit the check again after it's rejected?
-
In some cases, yes. If the rejection was caused by something you can correct, such as an incomplete endorsement or unclear image, you may be able to correct the issue and submit the check again.
-
If you're unsure why the check was rejected, contact Peak before resubmitting it.
Why was my deposit rejected even though I received a confirmation email?
-
The first email only confirms that Peak received your Mobile Check Deposit submission.
-
A second email provides the final processing result and tells you whether the deposit was approved, adjusted, or rejected.
What if my deposit wasn't rejected but the money isn't available yet?

A successfully submitted or approved check may still be subject to processing or a hold.
How many checks can I deposit at once?
