Lost or stolen checks

Learn what to do if your checks are lost or stolen, including reporting steps and credit protection tips.

  1. Visit us immediately if any of your checks have been stolen or lost beyond retrieval. We can change your account number and ensure outstanding checks are posted to your new account.
  2. File a police report at your local police station if your checks have been stolen. This protects you and helps identify and prosecute the thief.
  3. Monitor your mail for collection notices or unexpected bills. If a thief uses stolen checks, recipients will see “no account” and may contact you for payment.
  4. Respond to payment requests for checks you didn’t write:
    • Visit a branch and complete an affidavit of forgery.
    • Send the affidavit to the business or collection agency.
  5. Follow up to ensure the fraudulent transaction isn’t reported to credit bureaus or check verification agencies.
